There is no doubt that, currently, we are all living in unprecedented times.

Following the outbreak of Covid-19 in China and its subsequent classification as a pandemic, the epicentre of the contagion quickly spread to Europe. Italy soon became one of most severely impacted countries, placing a great strain on its emergency workers, its health system and its community support organisations. One such organisation was the Andrea Bocelli Foundation – a humanitarian charity providing support to communities experiencing poverty, illiteracy and distress due to illness and social exclusion.

In April 2020, while in self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic, Andrea and his son Matteo called in to the USA’s The Late Show Starring James Corden from their home in  Italy. Their appearance was to raise awareness of the  foundation and its work. Andrea commented, “For my Foundation, in this moment it’s very complicated because as you know the situation in Italy is difficult. Everyone working for my Foundation is very busy, and everyone is working very hard.”

Their appearance on The Late Show included a heart-warming rendition of their first recorded duet together — Fall on Me.

Fall on Me – a song for our times

Fall on Me is a song written by Ian Axel and Chad (Vaccarino) King, members of the American duo A Great Big World. In 2019 they recorded their original version of  the song in collaboration with American singer/songwriter Christina Aguilera.

Previously, in September 2018, Andrea Bocelli had released English/Italian versions of the song recorded with his son Matteo. Matteo wrote the Italian and additional English lyrics for this version, in collaboration with Fortunato Zampaglione. This version of the song also featured in the end credits of the Disney film, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, released in November 2018.

Fall on Me (the original version) is a beautifully poignant song that seemingly invokes the intervention of a higher power in the search for love. The Bocelli all-English version incorporates an additional sentiment – the bond between parent and child.
