Project Description

“Cool Change” is a hit song by Australian rock group Little River Band. It was written by the group’s then lead singer Glenn Shorrock. Released in Australia in August 1979, the song was the second single from the band’s sixth album, First Under the Wire.

It was released in the United States in 1979 where it peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1980. In May 2001 “Cool Change” was selected by the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time.

The song was also awarded a special citation of achievement by Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) for over two million radio broadcasts in the United States.

In writing the song, Shorrock was inspired by the beauty of the ocean and the calming power of getting away from everyday life. He crafted a true tribute to sailing. The lyrics are simple but powerful, emphasizing basic pleasures that resonate easily with most listeners.
